The literacy center was designed to be a safe and comfortable space for refugees and migrants to come when coming to the US, along with others in the community. The space offers educational spaces, counseling spaces, childcare, nursing rooms, outdoor spaces, and private self care/prayer spaces.

Research and precedent studies were conducted to provide adequate support to the users.

Arches are highlighted throughout the design to symbolize strength and support.

Communication will be incorporated by having workshops that provide educational services like language programs to users.

Community will be incorporated in the design by providing spaces that can hold classes or be rented out for the community to use for meetings or other activities. Social and self care spaces are spread out throughout the design and include various seating arrangements, mother’s rooms, and a self care space that could also be used as a prayer space. Counseling services as well as other assistance services, like assistance with insurance, housing, etc. will also be available for the community.
