In our final semester we worked on a semester long project the class were given options of which portion of the building they wanted to design. I decide to take on the challenge of creating 18 living units for the transitional housing facility. In this initial phase of the project, we spend the first few weeks researching. I spent time reading articles about other transitional housing facilities, not just about how they were designed but about how the users felt while being in the space. I also learned a lot about the people that typically occupy these spaces. Additionally research was done to improve the efficiency of the space, both for the health and wellness of the users and the sustainability of the building.

The Brooks Transitional Care Facility is designed to support its tenants with various amenities to support and encourage community growth. The name comes from the idea of water or a stream. A brook is constantly flowing from one moment to another. Brooks provide resources and can symbolize the beginning of life. These key components of a brook help to influence the design of the building. Like a brook that is constantly moving, tenants might only be living here for short periods of time. The color scheme is made up of cool colors consisting of green and blue. This will help to pull from those colors that are found in the outdoors and in a river. The design is created to make a comfortable environment that promotes individual growth and community growth. An open concept is used for the gathering spaces to draw individuals out of their rooms and into the common space. Brooks strives to create an environment that is safe and supportive for its community.
